The price of everything is going up and there are many reasons. Bottom line, we must do everything we can to save money on food. We have seen many quit buying candy, chips, soda, cookies, and even the basic like meat. This is not the time to abandon food storage. It is time to become more creative in how and when we purchase. It is time to get more creative in how we prepare meals. Our food storage will always be less expensive than purchasing next month or next year as prices continue to rise.
When mom and dad both work, or mom or dad is a single parent, or kids need to be driven to school for early morning practices or classes, breakfast can often be on the run. The price of oatmeal rose last year and it will again this year due to another short crop. If you have depended on instant oatmeal for breakfast or snacks don't waste your money anymore. Make your own it takes just minutes. It's simple, far less expensive and you control all the ingredients when you make it yourself.
Instant Oatmeal 3 cups Quick-Cooking Oats Place 1 cup oats in a blender process until powdery. Combine with remaining oats. Create a few varieties by adding the following.
Flavor varieties:
• Apple-Cinnamon Oatmeal: Add: 3 T. sugar, 1 tsp. cinnamon, and 1/2 Cups chopped dried apples.
• Cinnamon Oatmeal: Add 3 T. sugar and1 tsp. cinnamon. Combine sugar and cinnamon before adding to oatmeal.
• Fruit and Cream: Add 3 T. dry milk and 3/4 Cup diced dried fruit
• Oatmeal Raisins: 3 T. brown sugar and 1/2 C raisins.
To serve: Empty 1/2 Cup of Oatmeal mixture into a bowl. Add 3/4 cup boiling water, stir and let stand for 2 minutes.
Store in airtight container.
